IIT JAM counselling is an important event to get admission in different institutions participating in JAM exam. Candidates will be provided with three options to choose during JAM 2026 counselling process. They can either accept the seat allotted and freeze it or can accept an upgrade for the better option or can reject and quit the allotted seat and the further process. IIT JAM Counselling Process 2026
Counselling is an important step in the JAM 2026 admission process. Students are advised to follow the points mentioned below to get a better understanding of JAM 2026 counselling.
Selected candidates first need to register themselves for the JAM counselling and fill out their preferred choices in terms of colleges and courses.
As soon as the registration closes, IIT Bombay will release the JAM admission list in the form of opening and closing rank. Students can check this list on their website.
As the next step, they will be called by the institution for counselling.
Institution will then ask for the documents for verification.
Successful candidates will have three options to choose.
Accept and Freeze- Candidates will accept their allotted seats and reserve the seat by paying seat booking fees.
Accept and Upgrade- They accept their seat and also look for the better option.
Reject and Quit- In the last option, candidates can withdraw their name from IIT JAM admission list. This will also cease further involvement in any counselling round.

Candidates who are satisfied with their JAM seat allotment will submit their seat booking fees in any of the following payment options such as debit card, credit card, net banking and UPI. Candidates can pay the JAM counselling fees 2024 in online mode such as debit card, credit card, internet banking and UPI etc.
The IITs conduct JAM entrance exam every year for admissions to various courses such as M.Sc. In order to get admission to IIT through JAM Entrance, candidates are required to apply for IIT JAM in online mode, clear the JAM exam securing the cutoff required and by qualifying the JAM counselling.
